SEO Copywriting Tips: Keyword Density
Week Two Topic - Keyword Density
Keyword density refers to the amount of times a specific keyword appears on a page. You need a good balance between relevant exposure and keyword stuffing (the act of inundating a web page with keywords to the point that it is no longer readable).
The keyword must appear at a level to get the attention of the Google Algorithm, but not too blatant.
Some say that the density needs to be at a 5-6% density. - We feel this borders on keyword stuffing because the content becomes convoluted for the reader.
Others say the density needs to be 3-4% - We feel this is slightly high, but can still yield good results.
WE say that the keyword density need only be 1 - 2% - This is a comfortable level that attracts the search engine, but does not turn off the reader. Because after all, readers and users determine which sites are popular. If your site answers the users question, then it will grow in popularity, traffic, and gain the attention of Google.
To achieve a 1-2% density, is rather natural. When you write an article, the keyword appears organically through the writing Beyond that, you should position that keyword near the front so it is quickly visible, as well as a few other strategic places - such as near relavant keywords or geographic information.
However, it also depends on the length of the page. If you have an article that is 250 words, the density will natural be higher, than articles that are 500 words.
The bottom line is, the main focus of the writing MUST be the reader. Give them the information they need quickly and easily, and then focus on putting the keywords in seamlessly.
